A cool thing about the iPad is that it functions like a computer, despite not looking like one. For example, you can create spreadsheets and even presentations. Another great thing about Apple's hit tablet is that you can bring it almost anywhere. For example, if you want to show your parent (or guardian) a cool thing you found on the web, you would have to persuade them to come to your room. But, with the iPad, you can just walk up to them and show them with that instead.
As a matter of fact, the iPad has many competitors! Apple's rival, Microsoft, made the Surface 2. However, Microsoft's product doesn't even come close. The software, Windows RT 8.1, is dated, and there's not a lot to do with it. At least it's not as weak as Google's Nexus, Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet, and Samsung's Galaxy Note - all competitors of the iPad.
In this version of Apple's iconic tablet, it had a similar interface of that to the iPhone (and still does today). It could also detects movements in real time, like tilting and rotating it! On the first day of its release, approximately 300,000 iPads were purchased. A month later, and 1,000,000 iPads were sold. A total of 15,000,000 iPads were shipped, prior to the release of iPad 2, eleven months later.
